Mumbai Airport Sees Record 13.4 Million Passengers in Q1 FY2024

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai saw over 13.4 million passengers in Q1 FY2024, marking a 7% increase compared to the same period last year. The airport also experienced a significant surge in both domestic and international flight traffic.

Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) experienced a notable increase in passenger traffic in the first quarter of the financial year 2024. More than 13.4 million passengers traveled through the airport, representing an over 7% rise from the same period last year. Out of these, approximately 3.7 million were international travelers, while 9.7 million flew on domestic routes, according to Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL).

During Q1 FY2024-25, CSMIA's passenger traffic exceeded 13.46 million, showing a 7% rise compared to Q1 FY2023-24's 12.49 million. April kickstarted the quarter with 4.3 million passengers, followed by a rise to 4.7 million in May, an increase of 7.9% month-on-month. In June, the airport welcomed 4.39 million passengers, underscoring a steady demand for air travel in Mumbai. The period also recorded over 59,775 domestic Air Traffic Movements (ATMs) and 21,519 international ATMs, marking a surge of over 4% from the prior year.

May 2024 stood out as the busiest month with a total of 4.7 million passengers, and the single-day peak was on May 18 with 163,166 passengers. Overall passenger traffic increased by over 7% compared to Q1 FY2023-24. Delhi, Bangalore, and Hyderabad were the top domestic destinations, totaling over 6.9 million passengers. For international routes, Dubai, Singapore, and London led the chart, with Dubai seeing over 0.61 million passengers.

As per the latest data from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, domestic airlines carried 793.48 lakh passengers between January and June 2024, compared to 760.93 lakh in the same period last year, reflecting a 4.28% annual growth and a 5.76% monthly growth. (ANI)
