Mumbai International Airport on Tuesday reported a significant increase in passenger traffic, with numbers rising by over 7% year-on-year to 13.46 million in the June 2024 quarter.

The airport facilitated 12.49 million passengers in the first quarter of FY 2023-24, according to a statement from Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL). The June quarter recorded over 13.4 million passengers, with 3.7 million traveling internationally and 9.7 million on domestic routes.

Passenger traffic saw a steady month-on-month momentum, starting with 4.3 million in April and rising to 4.7 million in May, reflecting a robust demand for air travel. In June, MIAL handled 4.39 million passengers, emphasizing sustained interest in air travel from Mumbai. Overall, the airport managed 59,775 domestic air traffic movements (ATMs) and 21,519 international ATMs, marking a 4% increase from Q1FY 2023-24.

Key domestic destinations included Delhi, Bangalore, and Hyderabad, while Dubai, Singapore, and London topped the list of international travel spots. IndiGo, with more than a 50% market share, emerged as the leading airline in both domestic and international sectors. The Middle East, Asia Pacific, and European regions saw the highest traffic to and from CSMIA, with the Middle Eastern region accounting for a significant portion of passenger traffic in the quarter.
