The Digi Yatra platform has surpassed the milestone of 4 million registered users, according to an official statement released on Saturday. The platform also announced plans to expand its operations to 15 more airports, in addition to the 14 it currently serves, which will bring the total to 29 airports.

Initially launched in Delhi, Bengaluru, and Varanasi, Digi Yatra has since expanded to several major airports across the country, including Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, and Kolkata. The platform leverages biometric technology, allowing passengers to use their faces as boarding passes, effectively eliminating the need for identity cards or boarding passes at airport checkpoints.

The achievement of crossing 4 million users underscores Digi Yatra's transformative impact on air travel. The platform uses cutting-edge technology built on a Privacy-Preserving ecosystem that employs Verifiable Credentials stored in a Secure Wallet and Decentralized Identifiers using a Distributed Ledger. Since its launch in December 2022, Digi Yatra has enabled a seamless, digital processing system for passengers using facial recognition data. This biometric mechanism allows for a more efficient journey through various airport checkpoints, significantly reducing average entry time from 15-20 minutes to roughly 5 minutes. The platform emphasizes data security, deleting facial biometric data within 24 hours of a passenger's flight.

'We are elated with this milestone as it signifies more than just a number,' said Suresh Khadakbhavi, CEO of Digi Yatra Foundation. 'It represents the trust people have in our vision for a more efficient, secure, and passenger-centric experience. We aim to further expand our user base and are in discussions to make this facility available to international travelers.'

The not-for-profit agency behind the platform is the Digi Yatra Foundation, whose shareholders include the Airport Authority of India (AAI), Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (HIAL), Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL), Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL), Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), and Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL).
