The US is enhancing its military presence in West Asia by deploying an additional guided missile submarine, the Pentagon announced in response to rising regional tensions. On August 12, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany issued a statement commending the ongoing efforts by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States to broker a ceasefire and secure the release of hostages.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz expressed deep concern over the escalating situation, emphasizing their unified commitment to de-escalation and regional stability. They called on Iran and its allies to avoid actions that could worsen tensions and threaten the ceasefire and hostage release opportunities.

The Pentagon's announcement came on August 11, the same day US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant discussed Israel's operations in Gaza. Austin reinforced the US's commitment to defending Israel and ordered the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group to accelerate its deployment to the Central Command region, adding to existing capabilities from the USS Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group. Additionally, Austin ordered the USS Georgia guided missile submarine to the same region.

Austin and Gallant also discussed efforts to reduce civilian harm in Gaza, progress towards a ceasefire, and the importance of deterring aggression by Iran, Hezbollah, and other Iran-aligned groups. Iran has vowed to avenge the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, blaming Israel for the July 31 death, which Iran claims was retribution for Hamas's October 7, 2023, attack on Israel.

US President Joe Biden, along with leaders from Egypt and Qatar, have urged Israel and Hamas to resume ceasefire talks on August 15 in Doha or Cairo. They released a joint statement on August 8, expressing readiness to present a final proposal to resolve remaining issues and facilitate the agreement.

Israel has confirmed it will send a delegation for ceasefire talks on August 15. Concurrently, the Israel Defense Forces reported approximately 30 projectiles launched from Lebanon towards northern Israel, with no injuries reported. Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the attack, following an Israeli strike in southern Lebanon that injured 12 civilians, according to Lebanon's state-run National News Agency.
