Vizhinjam Port Welcomes Its First Cargo Vessel
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has welcomed the Chinese cargo vessel 'San Fernando' at the Vizhinjam International Sea Port. The port is India’s newest deep-water trans-shipment port, developed by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd. Featuring advanced automation, the project faced delays but is expected to be operational by 2024.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan formally welcomed the Chinese cargo vessel 'San Fernando' at the Vizhinjam International Sea Port on Friday. The ceremony saw attendance from key political figures, including Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Kerala Assembly Speaker A N Shamseer, and APSEZ Managing Director Karan Adani.
The international port, developed by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ), is set to become India's largest deep-water trans-shipment port. The arrival of 'San Fernando' marks a significant milestone for the project, which has faced delays but is now on track for full commissioning by late 2024.
With an investment of around Rs 8,867 crore, the Vizhinjam port will feature modern equipment and advanced automation systems. The project is expected to significantly boost India's shipping capabilities and is being constructed under a public-private partnership model.
