Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Sunday that new railway projects worth Rs 1 lakh crore will be implemented in Odisha over the next five years. This significant investment aims to address past neglect and boost the state's railway infrastructure.

Vaishnaw, speaking at a felicitation event organized by Odisha BJP for its newly elected MPs and MLAs, criticized the previous Congress and BJD governments for neglecting the railway sector in Odisha. He emphasized that the formation of the double-engine BJP government, both at the state and central levels, will accelerate the development pace and create new records in the coming years.

The minister highlighted the enhancement of Odisha's railway budget allocation from Rs 800 crore during the UPA government's tenure to over Rs 10,000 crore under Prime Minister Modi's administration. Over the past three years, the state received more than Rs 10,000 crore annually for the railway sector. Vaishnaw also noted the construction of a new 1,826 km railway line in the past decade, exceeding Sri Lanka's total railway network. Additionally, 315 special trains will operate during the Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath, improving travel convenience for pilgrims.
