Rajya Sabha member John Brittas has expressed serious concerns about the recent tariff hikes at Thiruvananthapuram international airport. On Wednesday, Brittas called for the civil aviation ministry's intervention to review the revisions approved by the Airport Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA), which include higher User Development Fees (UDF) and landing charges.

Effective from July 1, the revised tariffs will significantly impact passengers and airlines. In a letter to Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu, Brittas described the increases as 'astronomical' and urged urgent action to protect passengers from disproportionate financial strains.

Brittas further claimed that the airport operator, Adani Airport Holdings Ltd, aims to maximize revenue by substantially increasing UDF and other charges while underreporting non-operational revenue. Such practices, he warned, should be promptly addressed to safeguard passenger interests.
