In this day in age, no matter the industry of your business, having a social media presence is vital to grow and be seen. Whether that social media platform is Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, or some other up-and-coming networking site–these platforms offer business owners the opportunity to connect their brand with customers on a more personal level. That personal connection is non-negotiable if you want your brand to stand out from the competition.

Jocelyn Elizabeth, known prominently online as the Crazy Lamp Lady, has learned a thing or two about building and maintaining a loyal following on social media. In fact, she’s amassed over 500,000 followers combined on YouTube and Facebook. She leverages this following to promote her online business of selling antiques and collectibles on eBay, Whatnot, and her recently launched marketplace called Niknax.

This article will break down some of the lessons she’s learned about building trust and credibility on social media and explain how you can do the same.

Put Your Best Content Forward

It may seem obvious, but posting quality content that offers value to your followers is a must. When you post great content that excites your followers, you position yourself as an authority in your industry.

“I film a lot of content and post daily videos to promote my brand and business. Throughout the years, I’ve really been able to fine-tune my content and what I film based on interaction with my viewers. I try to post content that I know my audience will enjoy and engage with,” says Elizabeth.

And while the overarching goal of social media is to gain followers (and, ultimately, more sales), your content shouldn’t be all about selling. Be informative, show off your brand’s personality, and keep your sales pitches minimal. Doing so will help your business stand out in the best ways.

Engage With Your Followers

According to Elizabeth, interacting with followers is an easy and effective way to build trust on your social media pages.

“People want to support genuine people and the brand they’ve created. They want a brand that showcases the real people behind the scenes,” she says. “I think they’re less likely to follow a nameless, faceless brand that clearly has an agenda.”

Creating content that engages and respects your followers can go a long way in creating trust. Don’t be afraid to show your face and share details about yourself and what inspired your brand and business. A little personalization goes a long way.

Be Consistent

It’s hard to create an established and legitimate brand if you only post on your social media channels once in a blue moon. You want to show your followers that you’re passionate about your brand and enjoy sharing new things with them. So, develop a social media plan. Sometimes this plan may involve scheduling content in advance to ensure your branding stays consistent.

“When I first started posting videos to YouTube, I committed to a video a day. Daily content isn’t easy, but I feel like I’ve connected with my viewers over the years. They’ve seen my kids grow up and my business evolve. They’ve come to expect me every single day like a friend and I like having that relationship. You don’t have to post every day like I do, but be consistent with whatever you decide,” says Elizabeth.

Try to keep the appearance of your logo, brand colors, and other design elements consistent, too. This will inspire trust and ensure that you build a professional and reliable company image.

Trust and Credibility Will Build Your Brand

When it comes to marketing your brand on social media, you must be both personable and professional. The more trust and credibility you build on social media, the better results you can expect, and the greater an impact you’ll make.

“I’ve been doing this for several years now and without establishing a sense of trust with my followers, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I always strive for honesty and transparency in all that I do with my content and my business. It means a lot to me as a customer for other brands and I hope it means a lot to my followers as well,” Elizabeth says.

What are the keys to building this trust? Focus on posting quality content, interacting with your followers, and staying consistent with your branding. If you can tick off those boxes, you’re practically guaranteed to watch your follower count rise.
