Yamuna Controversy: Pollution Politics in Delhi

Lt Governor VK Saxena sparked a new controversy by sharing images of toxic froth covering the Yamuna, directing criticism towards those responsible for its cleanliness. Saxena, without naming individuals, questioned the intentions of those who promised to rejuvenate the river and stalled efforts to make it pollution-free.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), in response, accused the BJP of using outdated images from 2015 to undermine their efforts, calling the move a desperate tactic. AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal had earlier promised to clean the Yamuna by 2025, facilitating safe bathing for the public.

The Supreme Court stepped in last year, halting the National Green Tribunal's decision to appoint the Delhi LG as the head of a committee for the river's rejuvenation. This intervention followed the AAP's claim of sidelined governance in their mission to cleanse the Yamuna.
