A British police officer, Martyn Blake, was cleared of murder charges on Monday for the fatal shooting of Chris Kaba, an unarmed Black man in London. The incident, which occurred two years ago, had ignited widespread protests and anger among the city's Black community, highlighting concerns of racial injustice.

Blake, 40, had fired at Kaba through his car's windscreen as he attempted to flee. The vehicle was suspected of involvement in a shooting the night before. Blake asserted that the decision was made in a split second, intending only to incapacitate Kaba, not kill. His suspension has been lifted following a jury's decision.

The acquittal has been met with dismay by Kaba's family and advocates against police violence, citing institutional racism within the Metropolitan Police. Calls for reform have intensified in light of an independent review revealing inherent biases within the force.
