Starlink plans to expand its satellite internet services in India, potentially supporting 5.7 million users by 2030. Starlink is set to bring its satellite-based internet services to India, with a projection to serve up to 5.7 million users by 2030, according to a report by Jefferies. Currently able to accommodate 0.18 million subscribers, Starlink's capacity limitations could result in premium pricing structures.
The satellite internet service, known for its 'broadband from the skies,' views India as a key market as the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) prepares spectrum allocation rules. Despite the significance for Starlink, Jefferies notes that its introduction is unlikely to disrupt leading telecom players due to limited capacity.
Globally, Starlink has about 4.6 million subscribers, with North America being its largest market. In India, it is expected to have a minimal impact on current telcos, given the need for collaborations on distribution and pricing. Starlink's strategy of operating in large countries aims to utilize its global satellite network more effectively.
