India marked a significant milestone on Wednesday with the successful test flight of its indigenously-developed Vertically-Launched Short-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (VLSRSAM). Conducted from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, Odisha, the test was a collaboration between the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy.

The missile was launched from a vertical land-based launcher to target a high-speed aerial object at low altitude. The test affirmed the Near-Boundary-Low Altitude capabilities of the VLSRSAM, as it effortlessly destroyed its target. The missile's superior agility, reliability, and precision were demonstrated during the exercise, with all weapon systems performing as expected.

Following the successful test, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh commended the DRDO and Indian Navy, hailing the system as a testament to India's robust defense R&D capabilities. The missile is seen as a notable enhancement to the Indian Navy's arsenal. Ahead of the test, safety protocols ensured the temporary evacuation of nearby residents and restricted sea activity for local fishermen.
