Aam Aadmi Party MP Raghav Chadha raised concerns over India's position in artificial intelligence during a session in Rajya Sabha, pointing out the stark contrast between India's AI development and that of the US and China. He cited prominent AI models like ChatGPT and Deepseek, emphasizing India's lagging efforts.
Chadha noted that while the US and China are leading the AI race, India holds a minuscule share of AI patents. Despite being a large digital economy with millions of internet users, India remains more of an AI consumer than a producer, with significant talent working abroad.
Stressing the urgency for India to enhance its AI capabilities, Chadha called for increased investments, development of indigenous AI chips, dedicated infrastructure, research support, and measures to retain AI talent, to match global spending and innovation.
