Han Jong-Hee, a prominent figure at Samsung Electronics, has passed away at the age of 63, the company confirmed on Tuesday. Known for his transformative impact on Samsung's television division, Han played a pivotal role in establishing the company as the world's leading TV manufacturer.
Appointed co-vice chairman and CEO in 2022, Han oversaw the company's consumer electronics and mobile devices sectors. His contributions were instrumental in the expansion and success of Samsung's consumer products. Han's tenure at Samsung, which began in 1988, marked a journey through various TV-related divisions, leading to his prominent role in the company.
Following his death, Samsung announced that Jun Young Hyun, the current semiconductor chief, will assume Han's responsibilities as the sole CEO. This transition comes as part of the strategic leadership structure under the broader guidance of Lee Jae-yong, Samsung's chairman and third-generation corporate heir.
