Union Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia disclosed that Elon Musk's Starlink still needs to comply with India's security norms before securing a satellite communications license. This compliance is essential as the country aims to bolster secure satellite-based broadband services.
Meanwhile, other companies, such as OneWeb and Jio Satellite Communications, await the allocation of spectrum, with Trai expected to finalize relevant recommendations by December 15. The government's decision on spectrum allocation is critical to launching satellite broadband services.
In addition, the government is addressing bank guarantee issues with Vodafone Idea, focusing on sector-wide impacts. Scindia also highlighted the technological progress within India's telecom industry, pointing to BSNL's impending switch to 4G and eventually 5G, marking a significant achievement in indigenous technology development.
