The European Union has directed Apple to halt the practice of geo-blocking across its media services, including the App Store, Apple Arcade, Music, and iTunes. The EU identified several practices that may contravene its regulations and warned of enforcement measures if Apple does not comply.
European Commissioner Margrethe Vestager emphasized the EU's commitment to stopping geo-blocking, asserting that no company should unjustly discriminate against users based on nationality or residence.
Apple has been given a month to propose solutions to the identified geo-blocking issues. The company is under pressure to ensure fair access to its services for all European consumers.
