In a pivotal address at the NDTV World Summit, Bharti Group Chairman Sunil Mittal highlighted satellite communications as a 'magic bullet' for extending internet access to underserved regions globally. Mittal pointed out that nearly two billion people worldwide lack internet connectivity, and many of these are in remote areas unserviced by conventional networks.

Mittal emphasized that in India, around five percent of the population resides in areas devoid of internet options, making satellite an essential tool to bridge this digital divide. Ground stations in Mehsana and Pondicherry are ready to initiate services, pending government approval, Mittal noted.

The discussion also touched on the competitive tensions surrounding satellite spectrum allocation in India, involving industry giants like Elon Musk and Mukesh Ambani. Mittal stressed the need for equitable spectrum distribution and advocated for continued investment in India's digital infrastructure to keep pace with global connectivity standards.
