Nobel laureate Paul Romer has lauded India's Aadhaar as the most pivotal technological system globally, citing its role as a platform for delivering government benefits such as direct benefit transfers.
Addressing the NDTV World Summit, Romer contrasted Aadhaar's success with failed attempts in the US due to private sector monopolies.
Romer stressed that India, unlike many Western countries hampered by judicial constraints, was able to advance Aadhaar, thereby creating a platform that serves public interest over private profit.
Romer also discussed urban centers' GDP potential, advocating for efficient land assembly and urban planning to create valuable urban areas.
Furthermore, he highlighted geopolitical tensions, urging India to resist the allure of empire-building akin to China and Russia, and to champion sovereignty as an organizational principle in world politics.
