Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD has decided against applying for incentives under India's newly launched electric vehicle policy, according to a senior official. The policy aims to attract global manufacturers, yet the company will pursue a different strategy in India's emerging market.

BYD India, which recently launched the all-electric multipurpose vehicle eMAX 7, is focusing on the homologation process to meet market demands in the short term. Rajeev Chauhan, BYD India's Head of Electric Passenger Vehicles Business, confirmed that the company is not prepared to take advantage of the policy right now.

While the policy sets favorable conditions for global automakers, including reduced import duties, BYD is analyzing other opportunities and the potential challenges posed by geopolitical factors between India and China. The company is importing vehicles under existing European certifications, allowing a limited number of imports.
