Brazilian Supreme Court Demands X To Comply with Legal Requirements
The Brazilian Supreme Court has asked the social platform X, owned by Elon Musk, to provide documents validating its new legal representative in Brazil. X was previously banned for not complying with hate speech moderation orders. The platform has now started addressing the court's demands to resume operations.
In a recent directive, the Brazilian Supreme Court has mandated Elon Musk's social platform X to submit documentation validating its new legal representative in Brazil. This development follows a prolonged standoff over hate speech moderation, which led to X being shut down in the region.
X's representatives have publicly indicated their intention to comply with the court's demands after the platform faced penalties and operational restrictions. Before this, X had refuted these orders as illegal, sparking a contentious dialogue.
Supreme Court judge Alexandre de Moraes has given X a five-day deadline to confirm its new legal status in Brazil, a critical step for the firm to resume its operations. X has also begun to pay overdue fines and block accounts flagged in a misinformation probe, which remains confidential.
