Meta Platforms to Resume AI Training Using Public Facebook and Instagram Content in the UK
Meta Platforms will restart the training of its AI models using public content shared by adults on Facebook and Instagram within the UK. This follows a pause after regulatory concerns. The company assures that only public posts will be used, excluding private messages and data from users under 18.
Meta Platforms has announced plans to resume the training of its artificial intelligence models using public content shared by adults on Facebook and Instagram in the UK. This training, which will include photos, captions, and comments, had been halted earlier due to regulatory concerns.
The decision follows a directive from the Irish privacy regulator, which prompted Meta to pause its AI model launches in Europe in June. The pause also allowed Meta to address issues raised by the UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
Meta confirmed that it has been engaging positively with the ICO, providing clarity that will enable the company to bring its AI products to the UK more swiftly. Users will start receiving in-app notifications explaining the process and their rights to object to the usage of their data in the training process.
