Mass Disconnection of Mobile Connections by Trai and DoT to Curb Fraud
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) and the Department of Telecom (DoT) have disconnected over 1 crore mobile connections to address pesky callers and fraudsters. Additionally, they blocked 2.27 lakh mobile handsets involved in cybercrime. Trai introduced revised quality of service rules effective from October 2024.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) and the Department of Telecom (DoT) have taken decisive action to combat fraud and unwanted calls, disconnecting over 1 crore mobile connections, according to an official statement.
Further, the DoT has blocked 2.27 lakh mobile handsets found to be involved in cybercrime and financial fraud activities, highlighting a zero-tolerance policy towards telecom-related crimes.
In their ongoing efforts, Trai has directed operators to sever and blacklist entities utilizing bulk connections for spam, including robocalls. The regulator has also revised quality of service (QoS) rules, which will be enforced from October 1, 2024. Starting April 1, 2025, mobile service performance will be monitored monthly instead of quarterly.
