The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday apprehended Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, along with three other individuals, over alleged financial misconduct at the institution.
The CBI's intervention follows a directive from the Calcutta High Court, which transferred the investigation from a state-constituted Special Investigation Team (SIT) to the central agency. The inquiry was initiated after Dr. Akhtar Ali, a former deputy superintendent, petitioned for an Enforcement Directorate (ED) probe into multiple financial discrepancies during Ghosh's tenure.
Among other grave accusations, Ghosh is implicated in illegal corpse sales, bribery involving students, and unauthorized tenders, raising questions about a possible connection to the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the hospital.
