The Quality Council of India (QCI) has granted provisional approval to the National Test House (NTH) in Ghaziabad as a certification body for drones, marking a significant milestone in India's burgeoning drone ecosystem.
According to an official statement released on Tuesday, the QCI's provisional approval aims to bolster the country's standing under the Drone Rules 2021, which seek to create a robust, globally competitive drone industry.
In fulfilling its new role, a team of NTH auditors will visit Vimaana Aerospace Technologies in Noida from September 11 to 12, 2024, to conduct a Stage-2 onsite assessment of the company's D1 application for the Krishiraj 1.0, an agricultural drone model. This audit is critical for securing the mandatory type certification for drones operating in India.
The NTH Ghaziabad branch is pivotal in ensuring that Indian-made drones adhere to the highest safety, quality, and performance standards. NTH's services, priced competitively at Rs 1.5 lakh, significantly lower than industry norms, demonstrate the institution's commitment to fostering innovation and growth in India's drone sector.
The NTH, established in 1912 and a premier testing and quality assurance body under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, has a long history of supporting India's industrial growth across multiple sectors.
