IIT Indore has made strides in technology by developing an advanced drone integrated with artificial intelligence applications for the close monitoring of inaccessible structures, an official revealed on Tuesday.

According to the official, the AI-driven drone can detect cracks and other structural defects within 25 milliseconds, covering high-tension power lines, gas pipelines, buildings, and roads.

Professor Abhirup Datta from IIT Indore shared that the innovative system combines Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) with AI and machine learning to identify and classify structural anomalies in real time, achieving a 98.7% success rate. This development is set to transform inspection procedures, making them faster, safer, and highly reliable.

Datta added that with further research, these AI-powered drones could also be utilized for detecting defects in railway tracks.
