The United Auto Workers (UAW) stated on Wednesday that a battery manufacturing joint venture between General Motors (GM) and LG Energy Solution has agreed to recognize the union at their Tennessee plant.

According to the UAW, the majority of workers at the Ultium Cells facility signed cards to join the union. The company has agreed to recognize the union following a strong vote for unionization at a similar Ultium plant in Ohio in 2022. Moreover, Ohio workers secured a new contract earlier this year that included substantial wage increases. The companies involved did not provide an immediate comment on the development.
