Ireland Ends Court Case Against X Over EU User Data Usage for AI
Ireland's Data Protection Commission has concluded its legal proceedings against social media platform X, following an agreement to permanently limit the use of EU users' personal data for AI training purposes. This settlement will help ensure more consistent and proactive data regulation across Europe.
Ireland's data regulator has concluded its legal battle with social media platform X after the company agreed to permanently restrict the use of personal data from European Union users for AI training purposes.
The Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC), which oversees many of the top U.S. internet firms based in the EU, initially sought to halt X's data processing activities related to AI development. The issue was brought to court in August, focusing on data collected from EU users between May 7 and August 1.
The DPC stated that the proceedings were dropped following X's commitment to adhere to the agreed terms permanently. The DPC plans to seek an opinion from the European Data Protection Board to ensure effective and uniform regulation of personal data usage in AI across Europe, according to Commissioner Dale Sunderland.
