Brazil Suspends Access to Elon Musk's X Over Legal Dispute
Brazil has suspended access to Elon Musk's X social network over a legal feud with Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes. This follows X's failure to meet a deadline to designate a legal representative. Musk has criticized the suspension as censorship, potentially affecting his business interests in Brazil.
Brazil's telecommunications regulator announced on Friday the suspension of access to Elon Musk's X social network. This move complies with an order from Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, who has been in a protracted legal battle with Musk.
The popular platform missed a Thursday evening deadline to designate a legal representative in Brazil, triggering the suspension. Musk has criticized the order as unjustified censorship, while the judge maintains that regulations against hate speech on social media are necessary.
With Musk's platform facing potential isolation from one of its largest markets, telecommunications carriers plan to block access from midnight on Saturday. The ruling has also led to the freezing of Starlink's bank accounts in Brazil. Musk has vowed to continue providing satellite service while he contends with the court orders.
