NASA Awaits Crew's Return Decision, SpaceX Tests Breakthrough Tech
NASA will announce on Saturday if Boeing's Starliner spacecraft will bring astronauts home or if SpaceX will handle the return. Meanwhile, SpaceX plans a daring spacewalk next week using innovative technology, including new spacesuits and a cabin without an airlock.
NASA plans to reveal on Saturday whether Boeing's glitch-prone Starliner spacecraft will bring astronauts back to Earth or if SpaceX will assume the responsibility. The decision follows an agency-level review which concludes on August 24. This comes after two astronauts reached the International Space Station using the Starliner.
In another headline-grabbing move, SpaceX is preparing for its first private spacewalk next week, among the most ambitious undertakings for Elon Musk's company so far. The mission will test cutting-edge technology, featuring streamlined spacesuits and a cabin without an airlock. A billionaire entrepreneur, a retired military fighter pilot, and two SpaceX employees are set to launch in a modified Crew Dragon craft.
The spacewalk, which is slated to occur 434 miles (700 km) above Earth two days after the launch, represents a significant milestone for private space exploration, showcasing SpaceX's pioneering spirit and technological advancements.
