The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Wednesday issued a stern warning to the public against fraudulent calls made in its name, which threaten mobile number disconnection and request personal information.
TRAI emphasized that it does not contact customers regarding mobile number disconnections through any means, nor has it authorized any third-party to do so. Communications claiming to be from TRAI should be regarded as potential fraud.
According to TRAI, genuine issues related to mobile disconnections due to billing, KYC, or misuse are managed directly by the respective Telecom Service Providers (TSPs). Citizens are urged to verify such calls by contacting authorized TSP customer service centers and report suspicious activities via the Chakshu facility on the Department of Telecom's Sanchar Saathi platform to curb cybercrime and financial fraud.
