Google has announced a significant expansion of its 'School Time' feature, now set to be available on select Android phones, tablets, and Samsung Galaxy Watches. According to The Verge, the recent update focuses on enhancing classroom focus by allowing parents to restrict various device functions during school hours.

Initially launched on the Fitbit Ace LTE smartwatch in May, the 'School Time' feature aims to minimize distractions. It enables parents to limit access to specific apps, phone calls, and message notifications from selected contacts. These controls can be managed via Google's Family Link app, providing an efficient way for parents to monitor their children's device usage.

Alongside the device expansion, a new feature set to release this summer will allow parents to link their YouTube accounts with their teens' accounts. As reported by The Verge, this will enable closer monitoring of their children's YouTube activity.

While the extension of 'School Time' to a wider range of devices marks a notable development, Google has yet to specify which Android phones and tablets will support the feature. This information is anticipated in the coming months.

This move is part of a broader trend to enhance digital well-being and reduce distractions in educational settings, The Verge noted. It remains unclear whether Apple will adopt a similar approach, as its Schooltime feature is currently available only on its smartwatches. (ANI)
