Samsung Electronics and representatives of its biggest workers' union in South Korea met Tuesday, but the talks ended without results, confirmed the union. The union has been striking indefinitely over pay and benefits since earlier this month.

Lee Hyun-kuk, vice president of the National Samsung Electronics Union, which represents roughly 30,000 of the company's South Korean workers, stated that the gap between both sides is too wide for an agreement. The union called on Samsung to present a fresh offer by July 29 and plans to hold final talks through July 31.

Analysts say a prolonged strike by critical personnel will add to Samsung's challenges as it faces competition in the semiconductor market. Samsung claims the strike has not disrupted chip production.
