Meta Pauses AI Tools in Brazil Amid Privacy Policy Concerns
Meta Platforms has suspended the use of generative artificial intelligence tools in Brazil following objections from the government's National Data Protection Authority (ANPD). This comes after the ANPD ruled that Meta's new privacy policy, which involves processing personal data for AI training, did not comply with regulations.
Meta Platforms announced on Wednesday that it would suspend generative artificial intelligence tools in Brazil due to the government's objections to its new privacy policy concerning personal data and AI. The move is crucial for Meta, as Brazil accounts for a significant portion of its user base, particularly on WhatsApp.
Earlier this month, Brazil's National Data Protection Authority (ANPD) issued an immediate suspension of Meta's new privacy policy, specifically the section involving the use of personal data for AI training. The ANPD has ordered Meta to revise its policy to exclude this practice.
In response, Meta stated that it has decided to pause the AI tools while engaging in discussions with the ANPD to resolve their concerns regarding generative artificial intelligence.
