Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Wednesday highlighted the global awareness around emerging AI threats and emphasized that only collective global efforts can address such challenges effectively.

The Minister for Electronics and IT announced that the IndiaAI Mission, approved by the Cabinet earlier this year, will be launched within the next 2-3 months.

During his speech at the 'Global IndiaAI Summit,' Vaishnaw underscored the mission's objective to democratize technology and tackle AI risks and threats. He pointed out that the Cabinet had allocated over Rs 10,300 crore in March to bolster India's AI ecosystem.

This funding aims to fuel various components of the mission, including the IndiaAI Compute Capacity, Innovation Centre, Datasets Platform, Application Development Initiative, FutureSkills, Startup Financing, and promoting safe and trusted AI.

He reiterated that countries worldwide recognize AI's potential for socio-economic transformation but also acknowledge its dangers, such as disinformation and misinformation, which are amplified by AI's capabilities.

Vaishnaw mentioned ongoing efforts across Europe, the US, and the UK, and India's role in the General Partnership on AI. He stressed that solutions must be developed through a global collaborative process, not in isolation.

The Minister concluded that political consensus is essential for regulating AI, with discussions ongoing to ensure that all societal sections understand the associated threats and opportunities before implementing legal actions.
