Google Docs is rolling out a new update that facilitates quick access and insertion of relevant content directly into documents. The latest update introduces an additional method to open the @-menu, providing users with an efficient way to incorporate smart canvas features seamlessly into their workflow.

When navigating to a blank line within a document, you will now see an "@" button, unlocking a menu with a variety of smart chip options. These include the option to select, search, and insert smart chips such as people, dates, timers, file chips, building blocks, calendar events, groups, and more.

Notably, this feature will be enabled by default, meaning users will automatically experience the enhanced functionality upon its rollout. Unlike some features that can be toggled on or off based on user preferences, this is a default setting that cannot be disabled.

The rollout for this feature will be gradual for Rapid Release domains, with visibility expected to extend over a period of up to 15 days, starting on December 11, 2023. For Scheduled Release domains, a full rollout is anticipated, with feature visibility expected within 1–3 days, beginning on January 2, 2024.

This enhancement will be available to all Google Workspace customers, as well as users with personal Google Accounts. As Google continues to refine and expand its suite of productivity tools, the integration of smart chips into Google Docs stands out as a user-focused feature aimed at simplifying the document creation process.
