Zampolli clarified that his request was not political, yet the reaction from Italian authorities was firm. Sports Minister Andrea Abodi dismissed it as 'not possible' and 'not a good idea,' insisting Italy must earn its place through merit.

Echoing Abodi's sentiment, Luciano Buonfiglio of the Italian Olympic Committee stated that participation in the World Cup should be deserved. Iran, despite geopolitical tensions, is preparing to compete in its scheduled games within the U.S.
