BFI Election Postponed Amid Legal Battles: A Rocky Road to the Polls

The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has postponed its upcoming election initially planned for March 28. This decision follows legal instructions from Delhi and Himachal Pradesh High Courts to reinstate names omitted from the electoral college. The BFI deemed it 'impossible' to complete the election within the planned timeline.

The elections, initially slated before February 2, have faced continual delays. The recent postponement was ordered by Returning Officer (Justice Retd) RK Gauba on March 21, stressing the necessity due to court-mandated changes to the electoral list, making it infeasible to adhere to the election schedule set by the Model Election Code.

Moreover, the BFI's challenges aren't limited to schedule changes. Legal wrangling includes a rejected appeal against the Himachal High Court, which aimed at securing former Sports Minister Anurag Thakur's position as a candidate. Amid these challenges, the Indian Olympic Association had attempted to intervene, leading to additional legal proceedings.
