Former India captain Sourav Ganguly recently commended Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer as the most 'improved' batter over the past year, suggesting his readiness for all cricket formats. After being excluded from the BCCI's central contract list for 2023-24, Iyer made a remarkable comeback in domestic cricket, leading to his triumphant return to the international scene.
Shreyas, who concluded India's successful Champions Trophy campaign as the leading run-scorer, found himself in a purple patch during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. With a stunning unbeaten 97 against Gujarat Titans, he secured victory for his side, transforming what was once his weakness, the short-length delivery, into an advantage.
The former BCCI president expressed his satisfaction with Iyer's evolution at age 30, sharing on platform X: 'Shreyas Iyer the most improved batsman in last 1 yr .. ready for all formats. Great to see his improvement after a few issues on length.' Although he was close to achieving his first IPL hundred, Iyer prioritized team success, urging teammate Shashank Singh to seize the final over opportunity, showcasing the depth of his team-first mentality.
