Mizoram's New Badminton Centre Aims to Elevate Local Talent to Global Heights

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma inaugurated a new Badminton Centre in Aizawl, highlighting its potential to nurture young talent to international levels. The center, part of a Vision 2036 plan, underscores a commitment to enhance sports infrastructure and training, aiming to prepare athletes for the 2036 Olympics.

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma officially opened the state-of-the-art Mizoram Badminton Centre in Zuangtui, Aizawl. Praising the natural flair the people of Mizoram have for badminton, he noted that India is highly regarded for producing top-tier players in the sport, predominantly hailed from Asia.

The Chief Minister expressed confidence that young Mizo players currently distinguishing themselves nationally have the potential to set global benchmarks. With the Badminton Centre now operational, these promising athletes can access enhanced training facilities to further their skills and competitiveness.

Lalduhoma acknowledged former Chief Minister Zoramthanga and Deputy Chief Minister Tawnluia for their foundational role in the development of this initiative. As India eyes hosting the 2036 Olympics, the Vision 2036 plan has been launched to boost Mizo athletes, ensuring they are poised to represent the country.

The Empowering Mizoram Sports (EMS) initiative focuses on identifying and nurturing young sports talent. The government pledges full support to athletes through comprehensive training and infrastructure enhancement. Mizoram UD & PA Minister K. Sapdanga expressed appreciation for past contributions and articulated hopes for more recognition for Mizoram's athletes.

The world-class facility, realized under the Aizawl Smart City Limited project with a total expenditure of Rs. 18.21 crore, includes all essential amenities to support sports development. Construction, starting in June 2022, concluded in March 2025. The centre boasts badminton courts, a gym, dormitories, and medical facilities, promising a bright future for sports in the region.
