The Sports Ministry has officially lifted the suspension on the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), allowing it to resume its activities, including organizing domestic tournaments and selecting national teams for international competitions.

The Ministry initially suspended the WFI on December 24, 2023, citing the premature announcement of the Under-15 and Under-20 National Championships as the primary cause of concern.

The controversy arose when the newly elected Sanjay Singh-led panel selected Nandini Nagar, Gonda, a stronghold of former WFI chief Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, as the championship venue, leading to government dissatisfaction. However, following WFI's corrective measures, the Ministry decided to lift the suspension.
