Former U.S. Open champion Emma Raducanu has pulled out of the upcoming Auckland Tennis Classic citing a back injury that hasn't healed as hoped. The young British star was set to kick off her season at the event against Robin Montgomery.
Raducanu, who recently hired fitness coach Yutaka Nakamura, expressed her disappointment but remains optimistic about the year ahead, especially after ending her 2024 season on a high note at the Billy Jean King Cup. Injury issues have plagued her career, but she's determined to push through in 2025.
In addition to Raducanu, Elise Mertens of Belgium has also announced her withdrawal from the tournament due to injury. Both players aim for a strong comeback at January's Australian Open in Melbourne.
