Irish marathoner William Maunsell and American runner Ashley Paulson made headlines by setting new marathon records in Antarctica at the Great World Race. Maunsell finished in an incredible time of two hours, 38 minutes, and 42 seconds, smashing the previous record by over 15 minutes.
In the women's category, Paulson claimed victory at Wolf's Fang, crossing the finish line in three hours, 18 minutes, and two seconds—beating the previous record by nearly half an hour. This race is part of a grueling series of marathons, with athletes pushing their limits across seven continents in just one week.
Race director David Kelly noted the dual challenges of running amid harsh conditions and maintaining a rigorous travel schedule. Despite these hurdles, both Maunsell and Paulson met the challenge head-on to earn their accolades in this unique global event.
