New Zealand's prominent fast bowler, Lockie Ferguson, has been sidelined from the upcoming one-day international series against Sri Lanka after sustaining a calf strain. The injury occurred during the second Twenty20 match, where Ferguson recorded a remarkable hat-trick, helping New Zealand secure a five-run victory and level the series 1-1 in Dambulla.

Ferguson will return to New Zealand for further scans and rehabilitation, consequently missing the three-match ODI series that begins on Wednesday in Dambulla. "We're gutted for Lockie," stated New Zealand head coach Gary Stead on Tuesday, acknowledging Ferguson's impact and leadership within the team.

To fill the void left by Ferguson's absence, Adam Milne will join the squad. Coach Stead highlighted Milne as a suitable replacement for his genuine pace and international experience, expressing anticipation for his contribution to the series.
