Calicut FC emerged victorious in the inaugural Super League Kerala title after defeating Forca Kochi FC 2-1 at the EMS Corporation Stadium on Sunday. The match witnessed a massive turnout with 35,672 spectators cheering for Calicut, who led 1-0 by halftime. The victory marks Calicut's first Super League triumph, accompanied by a prize of Rs 1 crore.
The game kicked off with Calicut FC displaying a strong strategy, implementing a high press and precision passing. Fourteen minutes in, Thoi Singh scored the opening goal from Kervens Belfort's cross, igniting the home crowd and putting Kochi on the defensive. Kochi's striker Dorielton found opportunities limited against Calicut's stalwart defense, maintaining a 1-0 lead for the hosts at the break.
Forca Kochi gained momentum in the second half under coach Mario Lemos, who opted for tactical changes to enhance their attack. Nevertheless, Calicut's steadfast defense prevailed until Belfort confirmed the win with a 71st-minute volley.
