Fenerbahce's head coach, Jose Mourinho, faces consequences after critiquing the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) during a tense Super Lig match against Trabzonspor. The Turkish Football Federation has suspended Mourinho for one match and fined him for his comments.
After the match saw two penalties given to Trabzonspor through VAR interventions, Mourinho expressed frustration over a non-call involving Fenerbahce's Bright Osayi-Samuel. He alleged VAR official Atilla Karaoglan overlooked a crucial incident, asserting that such oversights tarnish the league's appeal internationally.
The Turkish Football Federation condemned Mourinho's remarks, asserting they jeopardized the TFF's reputation and discredited the fairness of officiating. Mourinho has been ordered to pay substantial fines for unsportsmanlike behavior and fan misconduct. Fenerbahce Vice President Acun Ilicali also incurred penalties for criticizing referees.
