Sri Lanka's Sumathi Dharmawardena Takes Helm of ICC Anti-Corruption Unit
Sri Lanka’s Sumathi Dharmawardena has been appointed by the ICC as the new Independent Chairman of its Anti-Corruption Unit, replacing Sir Ronnie Flanagan. With a strong legal background and experience with Interpol and UN on sports corruption, he will begin his role on 1 November 2024.

Sri Lanka's Sumathi Dharmawardena has been appointed the new Independent Chairman of the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU). His appointment follows the retirement of Sir Ronnie Flanagan, who held the position for 14 years.
Before assuming this crucial role, Dharmawardena served as the Additional Solicitor General at Sri Lanka's Attorney General's Department. He has represented the government and its Ministry of Sport in numerous legal matters. Moreover, Dharmawardena brings to the table extensive experience gained from his work with Interpol and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, where he tackled sports corruption issues and conducted prosecutions under the Prevention of Offences Relating to Sports Act.
Assuming his position on 1 November 2024, Dharmawardena will be responsible for leading the ACU, guiding its integrity-driven operations, and working closely with the General Manager - Integrity at the ICC.
