MCC Embraces The Hundred's Future with Major Stake in London Spirit
Marylebone Cricket Club members vote to accept a majority share in The Hundred's London Spirit. The decision marks a significant investment interest in the 100-ball format from various stakeholders. ECB plans to sell stakes in its teams, with ongoing negotiations reported by its chief executive.
The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) has taken a pivotal step by voting in favor of acquiring a 51% share in The Hundred franchise, London Spirit, as reported by The Telegraph on Monday. This strategic decision came about after a special general meeting, where 4,897 of 6,037 votes cast supported the resolution, strengthening MCC's position in the modern cricket landscape.
In the wake of this development, Reuters has sought comments from the MCC for further insights. The move aligns with a broader trend, as the franchises within the evolving 100-ball format have attracted substantial investment interest. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is expected to initiate the sale of stakes in some of its eight teams over the coming year.
Highlighting the fervor surrounding these acquisitions, ECB chief executive Richard Gould recently disclosed that the board is engaged in negotiations with about 100 parties who are eager to purchase stakes in the franchises, underscoring the vibrant future of The Hundred.
