Amid mounting criticisms following India's 0-3 series defeat at home to New Zealand, Gambhir praised the duo's undiminished ambition and assured fans of their imminent comeback during the upcoming tour in Australia.
Speaking at a pre-departure press conference, Gambhir articulated confidence in the team's determination and their ability to excel. When questioned about the pressure on him personally, Gambhir dismissed such concerns, describing his role as head coach as both an honor and a privilege.
The Indian team is set to face Australia in a five-Test series starting November 22 in Perth. In a significant announcement, Gambhir confirmed that vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah would stand in for Rohit Sharma should he be unavailable, while KL Rahul and Abhimanyu Easwaran are being considered for the opener's position.
