In a significant turn of events for Australian cricket, veteran wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Wade has announced his retirement from the international arena. Wade, aged 36, has graced the field in 225 international matches for his country across 13 years, notably starring in three T20 World Cup editions.

Wade's crowning achievement was guiding Australia to their first-ever 20-over title in Dubai in 2021, where he played a vice-captaincy role. His standout performance came against Pakistan in a thrilling semi-final, crafting an unbeaten 41 runs off just 17 balls. In Tests, the left-hander amassed 1,613 runs, including four centuries.

While Wade will continue domestic play and franchise commitments, he now sets his focus on a coaching career. Wade has already been enlisted in Australia's coaching staff for the imminent T20I series against Pakistan, marking the start of this new phase. His decision was a planned transition, as noted in discussions with George Bailey and Andrew McDonald.
