New Zealand is looking to emulate the tactics of Indian spin bowlers to secure crucial wickets as they prepare for day two of the second Test. Assistant coach Luke Ronchi commended India's Washington Sundar and Ravichandran Ashwin for their successful strategies, which saw the hosts restrict New Zealand to 259 runs in their first innings.
Ashwin and Sundar's method of altering bowling pace proved pivotal in dismantling New Zealand's lineup from a promising 197/3 position. While Ashwin started strongly by taking three wickets, Sundar completed the job by claiming seven, marking his best performance in Test cricket.
Ronchi noted that although the pitch at the MCA Stadium didn't spin as much as initially anticipated, New Zealand aims to maintain pressure on Indian batters by exploiting variable bounce and tight field placements.
